FAQs @ The ADHD Psychologist

Do you see people who aren't diagnosed ADHD?

Absolutely. I see people with many diagnoses and none. I work with you as a whole person while keeping neurodiversity and ADHD in mind where relevant. If you find I speak to you in some way I'd be happy to hear from you, and we’ll see if I might be the right person to support you.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions we work together for will depend on what you want to gain from therapy, your needs, preferences, and resources. It can be a ‘you get out of it what you put in’ kind of process.

Usually within the first three sessions we’ll come to a shared decision about your course of therapy. I offer short-term (12-20 sessions) and long-term/open-ended therapy.

Can I arrange fortnightly or monthly sessions?

A commitment to weekly therapy is really needed for the therapeutic process. Depending on your personal needs, in some circumstances we’ll agree to fortnightly sessions after a period of at least 12 weekly sessions. The intention behind this is to support the adjustment period in bringing sessions to an end.

    Do you offer ADHD assessments?

I don't offer full diagnostic assessments. What I do offer is a space to consider the likelihood of ADHD being part of the picture for you, and my professional opinion, ahead of investing in a full diagnostic assessment.

With this we can also explore your hopes, concerns, and the personal value of an assessment for you, in a therapeutic space.

If you decide to pursue a diagnostic assessment, I’m very happy to signpost you to trusted professionals, and support you through the process.

  • adhd-coaching

    Do you offer coaching?

I offer therapy rather than coaching. If you’re looking for more practical support in the context of ADHD, you might wish to look into ADHD coaching.

The therapy I offer is intended to address the deeper roots of emotional wellbeing struggles, in the context of ADHD where relevant, to experience lasting transformations in your wellbeing.

You can find a more extensive response to this question in my ‘About Me’ section.

    Do you offer relationship therapy?

I don’t currently offer relationship therapy.

I do offer therapy for individuals who are navigating difficulties in their relationships, particularly where one or more partners are neurodivergent.

It might be that your partner/s aren’t open to relationship therapy and you want to gain clarity on the issues in your relationship. It might be that a parent-child dynamic is impacting your sex life. Perhaps you and your partner/s are often arguing when one of you feels criticised or otherwise rejected. Maybe you’ve been drawn into playing the peace-keeper in an emotionally volatile relationship, and you’re concerned about how your children are being impacted. These are issues we can explore and address together.

  • Do you offer parent-child work?

With young people I offer one-to-one therapy where the space is solely for the young person. Sometimes it can be helpful to bring you, as their parent, into the session for short periods of time, for example if the young person would like support in communicating something difficult with you. I’m very happy to support on these occasions.

Where do you cover for online therapy?

I offer online therapy wherever you are in the world. The only exceptions are that I don’t currently offer online therapy to those who live in the USA or Canada. This is due to insurance limitations.
